The Monastica di Buggiano, in Tuscany, is a breathtaking structure: a former monastery with a deconsecrated church transformed into a luxury hotel, a true historical gem. Our journey with this client began at the Riva del Garda trade fair in 2023, when the owner visited us at our stand. After that initial meeting, he also visited the company and we discussed various quotes, but no orders were immediately placed.
But fate took a turn: the owner and his daughter wanted to meet us in person to see if we'd be open to discussing other projects as they progressed. This unexpected request caused a flutter in the design department when I shared the details of the brief with our team: design and produce seating for all the hotel's rooms and other common areas, a dedicated model for each chosen space!
We met the owner and his daughter in Bergamo, the same people we'd met at the fair, and their precise memory of us made the collaboration easier. Thanks to the renderings and available information, we chose the fabrics directly on paper. The result was extraordinary: the combinations were perfect, and the highly original fabrics ranged from iridescent velvets to velvets printed with tropical fauna motifs.
An unforgettable stay experience.
Each room of the Monastica became a unique space, with sofas and armchairs that told different stories through their designs. The unique furnishings, all different models, created extraordinary spaces. The client's satisfaction was palpable, so much so that they immediately placed another order to fill additional spaces, including uncovered corners and cushions and padding for outdoor furniture.
The relationship with the owner's daughter has become very informal, a sign of the trust and mutual respect built during this project. La Monastica is more than just a hotel; it's a historic residence that breathes new life and luxury through every meticulously crafted detail, and we are proud to have contributed to this transformation.
Each room now tells a story, a blend of past and present that welcomes guests with an embrace of elegance and style. And for us, this collaboration represents another memorable chapter in our history of incredible opportunities.
01. Noble's Room
The Nobile Room stands out for its timeless elegance. The four Jefferson chairs, upholstered in deep blue velvet, add a touch of sophistication. The iridescent blue piping creates a delicate contrast, enhancing the chairs' classic lines. This interplay of colors and fabrics gives the room a refined atmosphere, perfectly in tune with the residence's historic furnishings. Every detail has been carefully considered to offer an unforgettable stay, where luxury and tradition blend harmoniously.
02. The Abbess's Room
The Abbess's Room is an oasis of greenery and tranquility. Here, six green velvet Moon chairs create a harmonious atmosphere, perfectly paired with forest green velvet sofas made by another company. This mix of furnishings makes the room welcoming and refined, where each element elegantly complements the other. The choice of classic green velvet lends a sense of freshness and naturalness, immersing guests in a serene and relaxing atmosphere. The Abbess's Room is the ideal place for those seeking comfort and style in a historic setting.
03. The Lady's Room
The Castellana Room is a jewel of style and charm. A Cloud armchair in crumpled blue velvet has been carefully placed next to a quaint wardrobe built into the attic. This armchair, set against a stunning wallpaper, creates a corner of pure beauty. The combination of materials and color scheme make this room unique and welcoming. It's my absolute favorite photo, a snapshot of elegance and refined design that perfectly captures the essence of the historic residence.
04. Chamberlain's Room
The Chamber of the Chamberlain is a masterpiece of understated elegance. We used Tucson armchairs, crafted from dark walnut, with backrests featuring an olive green velvet print reminiscent of a hazy python design. The seat and piping in solid olive green velvet complete the ensemble, creating a charming and sophisticated contrast. This bold yet refined design adds a touch of modernity to the historic residence, making the Chamber of the Chamber a place of unparalleled comfort and style.
05. The Chorister's Room
The Choirmaster's Room is a triumph of light and sophistication. The dark walnut Cloud armchairs are upholstered in a lustrous gold velvet, lending a touch of luxury and warmth to the space. The pastel gold chosen for these armchairs creates an elegant contrast with the dark wood, enhancing every detail of the room. This mix of colors and materials makes the Choirmaster's Room a welcoming and irresistible place, perfect for immersing yourself in an atmosphere of exquisite beauty.
06. Room of the Illuminated One
The Enlightened Room is a true display of vivacity and creativity. Two Austin armchairs are positioned in front of a coffee table, creating a charming corner. The armchairs are upholstered in bright yellow velvet, with exotic bird prints such as parrots and toucans on the backrests, while the rest of the room is in a solid color. This combination of vibrant colors and unique patterns gives the room a special energy, transforming it into a place of wonder and inspiration. The Enlightened Room is perfect for those seeking a touch of originality in a historical setting with a strong emotional impact.
07. The Doctor's Room
The Doctor's Room is a paragon of delicate elegance. Here, we chose the Bristol armchair, upholstered in powder blue velvet, giving the room a serene and refined atmosphere. To add a touch of luxury, the cord is gold, creating a sophisticated and luminous contrast. This combination of blue and gold gives the Doctor's Room a unique charm, where every detail is designed to offer a harmonious and relaxing visual experience.
08. The Nun's Room
The Monacanda Room is a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Here, four Victoria armchairs in oxidized gold velvet, fading slightly to green, are elegantly arranged. The contrast with the blue piping adds a touch of refinement and originality. This play of colors creates a room full of character, where the oxidized gold lends an antique and noble look, while the blue adds a fresh and contemporary touch. The Monacanda Room is a place where history and design meet in perfect harmony.
09. The Popess's Chamber
The Popess's Room stands out for its functionality and style. Here, we've placed two Chicago armchairs, adjusted to a seat height of 48 cm, ideal for guests who wish to eat comfortably near the dining table. The velvet chosen features a classic, delicate print in shades of blue, while the seat and cord are blue, recalling the structure's signature colors of blue and orange. This combination of colors and details gives the Popess's Room an elegant and practical look, perfect for an unforgettable stay.
10. The Prioress's Room
The Prioress's Chamber is a paragon of boldness and sophistication. We placed four Zefiro armchairs, upholstered in a deep purple stretch hammered velvet. The cord, meanwhile, is made of a classic mauve velvet, creating a harmonious and visually captivating contrast. This mix of textures and hues makes the armchairs not only comfortable but also extraordinarily beautiful. The Prioress's Chamber is a place where vibrant colors and fine materials blend to create an elegant and distinctive environment.
11. Apothecary's Room
The Speziale Room exudes a subtle, delicate elegance. Here, we've placed Bloom armchairs, all with walnut legs, which lend a sense of lightness and refinement to the space. For the upholstery, we've chosen a solid-color powder blue velvet, while the dark blue velvet piping creates a refined contrast. This combination of colors and materials gives the Speziale Room a calm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing stay in a luxurious historic residence.
12. The Hall
The lobby of the Hotel La Monastica is a true masterpiece of design and functionality. Here, where guests can enjoy breakfast or lunch, we've placed three Chicago sofas, with oak-stained legs that perfectly match the beautiful floor. The sofas are upholstered in a printed velvet with a peacock-tail motif in shades of red and blue, while the seats are in solid red velvet.
Not knowing initially that the sofas would be used in the dining room, the seating was too low. To solve this problem and ensure maximum comfort for guests during meals, we created 10 cm high cushions, two in shades of red and one in blue. These cushions not only raise the seating, but also add a pop of color and further elegance to the space. The lobby, with its Chicago sofas, is now a welcoming and refined space, where every detail is designed to offer an unforgettable experience.
